Leonidas Orvinus Ifrikia( レオニダス三世 , Reonidasu San-sei ) , is former king of the Sun Kingdom and Livius's biological father . He is referred to only as the "late king".
Personality[]
Leonidas is said to have lived a rather carefree life, and was mentioned as being incredibly similar to Livius in both appearance and character, though Livius is enraged even by the mere mention of him. He was known to be very possessive, keeping Sheila locked in a tower. He has also been described as 'a child in an adults body.' However, he often behaved affectionately towards Livius and favored him over his other sons to the point he wanted to name Livius his heir despite that illegitimate children are barred from the throne. He was not fond of his wife though, not even sending her so much as a letter of comfort nor condolences when their son, Olbia, died.
History[]
At some point after becoming king, Leonidas was arranged to marry Antonia though he felt no real affection for her. The marriage was very unhappy and he took many mistresses. They had two sons, Romulus and Olbia. He had several illegitimate children by his mistresses but he never acknowledged them, including Altaria.
While out in the grasslands, he encountered Sheila, who was only fourteen, and besotted by her beauty. He made a deal with her and her tribe that should she be given to him, he would provide for her tribe. Sheila agreed, and became his concubine. Three years later, Livius was born.
Leonidas adored both Livius and Sheila, keeping Sheila imprisoned in the White Tower for himself and training Livius to be his successor. He favored Livius of all of his children, going as far as to instate the boy as a member of the Royal Household, as well as teaching him to hunt and taking him to War Council meetings despite Livius only being six years old. Although illegitimate children by law are barred from inheriting the throne, Leonidas made arrangements to grant Livius rights to the succession over the objections of his advisors and the Ministry of the Priesthood. When his youngest son, Olbia, died (murdered by Altaria), Leonidas was indifferent to the tragedy and neglected to even offer comfort to his grieving wife.
He was severly injured during a war campaign to the North. It was while he laid on his death bed that he met Altaria, who revealed himself as Leonidas’ illegitimate son. He was unaffected by the revelation and his last wish was to see Sheila and Livius, which was not fulfilled before he passed away
Leonidas was succeeded by his eldest son, Romulus. But shortly after, Sheila was murdered in a joint assassination attempt by Antonia on Livius and his mother. In revenge, Livius, who never wanted to be king, seized the throne by murdering his brother, sister-in-law, and Antonia. After his coronation, Livius had all portraits of his father burned and banned everyone from even mentioning Leonidas in his presence.
